On Elijah's thirtieth birthday he cuts out early from filming to get back to Los Angeles. He picks up a bottle of Merlot on the way, like Sean asked. He heads to Sean's, where they'd planned to meet, wondering what kind of night he has ahead of himself. His birthday is always a creatively new evening each year; Sean, free from marital obligations, has come through with increasing vigor each time. At the door Sean slides the wine bottle from the crook of Elijah's elbow and draws him in towards the warm light of the foyer, and they kiss softly. |
