Billy chats on the phone with Dom's mum for an hour and twenty-three minutes and seventeen seconds. He stops counting time when the phone clicks gently back into its receiver. He can't really sort out the way hearing about Dom's whole childhood from Dom's own mum makes him feel. His body aches for Dom, fingers twitching to find the spots where he can grip Dom and turn an embrace into something more meaningful. Things inside Billy's chest seem to start again. He knows things now, he knowshe knows what he's got. And if not, well, it's a step forward. |
