Contradiction

Billy is small and simple from the beginning, because Dom takes the time to look when they meet. Billy is the sum total of brown, green, smile, and warm, because Dom sees what Billy wants him to see.

And he'll think it's funny that what Billy wanted him to see is exactly what Billy is.

And ten years after that, they'll have a random moment over beer in some backwater pub and Dom will explain to Billy that this is what became Dom's definition of love ten years ago. He'll explain that he started thinking that way when Billy infused his life with the muted, beautifully murky colors of Scotland.

Dom is firm and complicated from the beginning, because Billy takes the time to watch when they meet. Dom is the sum total of blue, gray, grin, and heat, because Billy sees what Dom can't hide.

And he'll think it's funny that what Dom didn't want him to see is exactly what Dom is.

And ten years after that, they'll have a random moment over beer in some backwater pub and Dom will explain to Billy his definition of love. And Billy will happily contradict that with his own definition. Billy will explain that seeing what someone can't see about themselves is what he considers love to be. He'll explain that he started thinking that way when Dom infused his life with insanity and sun-bright, liquor-tang kisses.

When Dom falls silent through the second round of drinks, Billy will ask him if something is wrong. And Dom will ask if Billy agrees that there really is no difference between their two definitions. That maybe those two, rather than oppose each other, can become complimentary theories. That they form a much more convincing rule side by side than they would individually. Billy will smile and stare at Dom—and won't hesitate to mention that that was...exactly his point.
