They think first to draw straws, then names from a hat. But the chance of someone going to the producers unprepared—inarticulate, overwhelmed—is too great.

And so the Fellowship nominates the one who has least to lose, whose presence and argument for money will come as the greatest surprise. And Viggo paces for hours, considering his words, before he makes the call.

Two meetings and one pay hike later, he wonders if he’s gone colorblind. After three years of camaraderie and courage, he sometimes feels he’s the only one who does not look at the script and see green.
