No one else ever seems as cold as he feels.

Remus has learned to live with it, though, and he settles under his cloak, waiting for warmth that never comes. He feels the Dementors’ presence outside the train long before the others, but waits before rising up in the heat of knowledge—and power.

But the students’ safety is a temporary thing. When Remus leaves the berth to speak with the driver, he steps back into the permanent cold.

It’s one of few things in his life that carry permanence at all, he reasons, and it’s by far the kindest.
