Notes: Last month,
magickalmolly
issued a challenge to write a fanfic based thematically on each of the
Twelve Days of Christmas, beginning, obviously, on December 26. Posts
went up everyday in
12days.
This was indeed a challenge—what on earth do you write for six geese
a–laying?—but a fun one, and I really enjoyed it.
The
goal of the challenge was not to necessarily jump off from the exact
song lines. The community’s user info page talks more about that. So of
course I had no intention of actually writing about nine ladies
dancing, etc. Some participants also chose to explore different fandoms
everyday, but I knew from the get–go that I couldn’t do that, so for
better or for worse, I stuck with Lotrips, and BB/DM/EW specifically. I
also chose to make each post a chapter of one fic, all set during the
hunting holiday in Penrith. I know it’s probably been done to within an
inch of its life, but I don’t particularly have the same respect for
canon as other writers, so it was worth it to me to give it a try—and
copious amounts of angst, natch. I also kept the first seven chapters
to exactly one hour’s writing and 1,000 words, making it more of a
challenge for someone as wordy as I am, but for chapters nine through
twelve, I let myself off the hook on both counts. I think it’s pretty
obvious why.
